Furniture Shopping

Matt's mom is a very accomplished interior designer, so when she offered to help us find furniture for our new house, we obviously jumped at the opportunity!

I decided to dress comfortably, in jeans and a white silk button down and loafers, but I added a few classic touches such as a twisted hammock of pearls and my double breasted blazer.

Is there anything more American than a big pile of pearls and a classic navy blue blazer? This is such a great, go-to combo for days when you want to loo put together but also comfortable.

I cuffed my JBrand jeans to give them a trendier vibe, and paired the outfit with these tan Tory Burch loafers. They are accented with a little bow across the instep, so when I saw they were on sale on the Tory website, I had to get them! I guess all of these amazing sales are a silver lining of the bad economy ;)

When I got home the Aussie dog wanted to try on my pearls... I think she looks pretty cute :)

Until next time,

Fall Flowers

Necklace: Kate Spade (old)
This necklace is from the spring Kate Spade collection. Which made me wary of wearing it after basically August because of its pastel colors.

Dress: Shoshanna (old)

But, paired with this navy sweater and silk combo Shoshanna dress, I think it makes a fun autumn combo.

Boots: Tory Burch
I wore my brown Tory riding boots (shocking, I know) with them, and tights. I amazingly didn't need a coat today... It was almost 60! I can't wait to be back in California this weekend... Maybe I won't need a rain coat!

Until next time,

Pearls & Plaid

Boots: Tory Burch; Pants: J Brand; Shirt: JCrew; Vest: JCrew; Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
Happy Veteran's Day! Matt and I had some friends over today to celebrate this important day, which is even more important to us given that he's a veteran as well as almost even male in our families! But before the festivities could begin, I got productive and ran about town taking care of errands.

Necklace: JCrew
My glammed up everyday/company ready outfit is pretty basic: JCrew vest with a JCrew plaid, but with a big tangle of pearls thrown on top.

This Rebecca Minkoff bag is honestly the best bag ever for running around town. It's cross body, so it stays out of my way, and it has several pockets for organizing my life, including one for iPads and tablets. I literally don't take it off some weekends!

My birthday present Tory boots came out to play again. I paired them with some khaki skinnies that I've had for years... They're JBrand and AMAZING. Perfectly stretchy and perfectly comfy. Aka perfect for the weekend!

Until next time,

Weekend Warrior

Boots: Tory Burch; Pants: JBrand; Shirt: JCrew; Sweater: JCrew; Vest: The North Face; Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
It's cold here in Seattle! It drizzled all day today, which is the most annoying weather! You feel like a dork wearing a rain coat, and you don't need an umbrella, so you kind of just have to wing it. I layered a buffalo plaid JCrew button up under a simple grey crew neck, under my North Face vest. It was still chilly!

Necklace: Kate Spade
My favorite Kate Spade necklace added some much needed bling to the outfit...

I also wore these Tory Burch boots that, to be honest, I never know how to wear. I wanted them SO badly a few years ago, but I always feel a little too rocker chick I them. But I thought this was a good balance.

I don't know about you, but I ends to have a tinier bag when I'm out running errands: just enough to hold my wallet, phone, to do list and Chapstick.

Hope your Saturday was as productive and fun as mine!
Until next time,

Winter Whites

Well October came and went and with Novembers arrival, it seems that winter is here in full swing as well. We've been super busy here in Seattle, what with the new house and the horrible flu Matt and I have come down with. But today was the first day that I actually didn't just wear an oversiezed sweater and Minnie pants... Plus my new cords that I bought during JCrews last 25% off sale came in the mail. Yay!

The pants are white corduroys in the JCrew matchstick cut, which I love because it's so feminine and Audrey-esque, which is never a bad thing with a masculine fabric like corduroy.

I paired it with a black pullover and my denim button up. I like the denim during the winter/fall because it is slightly heavier and gives me some more warmth when it's super chilly out!

My quilted Barbour jacket was a great jacket to wear, it is thin enough that it doesn't make you look too bulky when you're layering and the plum added some color to my black and white outfit.

I added my gold and black Reva flats to match my black pullover, as well as my bow ring and Michael Kors watch, all of which are basically my everyday essentials.

Until next time,

Autumn Colors

Jeans: Madewell; Boots: Tory Burch
It's my birthday on Friday! I had a tiny celebration this weekend with Matt and some friends, and Matt surprised me with these new boots! I had wanted them from a while, and was so excited to get them!

I wore them for work today with these red Madewell jeans.  This is the only pair of Madewell pants that I have actually fallen in love with, all of the others I've bought I've ended up returning for various reasons.  I wore my chambray JCrew button-up under this tan cable knit JCrew crew neck that I think I've had since high school, but it's such a great classic that I keep wondering why they don't still sell them!

Sweater: JCrew; Button-up: JCrew; Necklace: JCrew
Of course I added a statement necklace (also a JCrew purchase - last Christmas on sale!), because I thought otherwise the outfit was pretty casual and a little too tomboyish for me.

Wrap bracelet: Tory Burch; Bangle: Kate Spade; Watch: Michael Kors
Last but not least, my Michael Kors watch, Tory wrap bracelet and my new Kate Spade bangle! This outfit is pretty casual for me for work, but it's my last day of the week today, because I'm taking a mini-vacation back home starting tomorrow! Woohoo!

Until next time,

Sweater Saturday

Sweater: Tory Burch (old); Shirt: Vince; Pants: JCrew; Boots: Stuart Weitzman (old)

Matt and I spent today in downtown Seattle with two of our best friends who are in down visiting us from Nashville. We  showed them all of the typical touristy stuff, like the fish market and the space needle.

Sweater: Tory Burch

It's pretty cold here already (we are only about 150 miles from Canada!) so I wanted to be comfy and warm. So I wore this Tory Burch cardigan with my favorite JCrew Minnie pants. It's basically the perfect outfit for a day of wandering around and eating at all of the best Seattle foodie spots.

Boots: Stuart Weitzman (old)

I paired it with my favorite Stuart Weitzman boots. I bought these a few years ago on sale at a boutique in San Francisco, and I wear them constantly. Such a good investment!

Wrap bracelet: Tory Burch; Bangle: Kate Spade; Watch: Michael Kors

The bracelet in new! My friends brought it from Kate Spade in Nashville for my birthday next week. Kate Spade might be the best way to celebrate a birthday!

Until next time,

Friday Stripes

Jacket: JCrew; Dress: Theory; Scarf: Target; Shoes: Tory Burch; Headband: JCrew

Today was one of those days. You know what I'm talking about. Those days when you wake up but the outside is grey and ominous. But I was determined to make
It not that kind of day. So I wore this! I didn't wear tights or boots, which was a terrible idea around lunch time when it was pouring, but worse things could happen.

Until next time,

Running Late with Hearts

I don't know about you, but I have had the most hectic week! And I stayed up a little too late last night watching the season premiere of Scandal, and I think the combination of the two made me oversleep this morning... eek!

So in my mad dash out the door I threw together my put-together-uniform: sweater, button-up, cropped pants, and ballet flats. I have a pretty informal work environment, so this works for me. What I like about it, though, is that regardless of your dress code, you can have a few key pieces like this that you can throw together in a pinch and still look put together and polished.

Sweater: JCrew (old); Button-up: Madewell; Pants: Rag & Bone Jean (really old, but purchased as Saks Fifth Ave)
I'm lucky that I have naturally pretty manageable hair, although sometimes it's straight-ness drives me absolutely insane! So my go-to hairstyle even on days when I'm not in a rush is to wear it down with a headband or up in a ballerina bun. I think that either of these hairstyles usually work with any kind of hair, though. They're also great because they take very little time and keep your hair out of your face during the day.  I don't know about you, but I hate having to constantly push my hair back all day long!

Shoes: Tory Burch (old, but purchased at Nordstrom)
I absolutely love these Tory flats.  Their tone-on-tone, tan coloring works so well with so many outfits, and is more subtle, which can be more appropriate for work when I'm wearing things like a heart print sweater.
I also love the length/cut of these pants. They're great for in-between seasons like fall and spring, and during the winter I can easily tuck them into my boots. They also make me think of something Audrey Hepburn would've worn, especially when paired with flats!

Watch: Kate Spade
I love the look of a classic white cuff against a nice sweater. It's just so timeless! I try to keep my accessories pretty pared down on work days, so I usually just wear my favorite Kate Spade watch (the band is polka-dotted!), a pair of simple stud earrings and my signet ring.

So this is my typical work look! Sometimes I will throw on a skirt or a dress instead, but skinny pants like these are so easy and comfortable. Depending on your work environment, this kind of look may not work for you. But, whether you have to wear a full suit to work everyday, or if you can stroll in with pink hair, I think it's important to have a repertoire of go-to pieces that you can throw together at a moment's notice. Especially if those pieces manage to show off your personality, too, like my heart sweater and polka-dotted watch tend to do for me.

Until next time,

Making Camo Work

I was in LA a month or so ago visiting some of my friends, and we of course went shopping. My friends down there tend to be much trendier than me, as I usually stray from buying into/buying fads. But, I seemed to catch trend fever while at Kitson one day and bought these camo jeans on a whim (another uncharacteristic move for me). I got them home and had absolutely no idea what to do with them, my only solace being that People Style Watch said they were cute. So after tearing apart my closet, I came up with this.
Sweater: Vince; button-up: Madewell; jeans: Black Orchid

I decided to pair them with an oversized white crew neck I had recently bought. I thought that the leather elbow patches would play well with the edgier print of the pants. I also added a collared shirt underneath in order to add some polish. This button up from Madewell makes so many appearances in my daily life!

Shoes: Tory Burch

I have had these unadorned, metallic Tory Burch flats forever, and while I don't wear them as much as my classic Reva flats, they are great for outfits like this when I don't need a lot of competition coming from my shoes.

Here's a close-up of my collar/sweater combo.  I just love the look of a crisp collar under a sweater, and I think this monochromatic take offers a fresh spin.

Until next time,

A fall walk on a drizzly afternoon in the North West

The first day of fall is the perfect day for Blackwatch plaid (close up of skirt)

My trusty Reva's.
